Wrestlemania 29: From a Fan's Perspective

On April 7th, 2013, wrestling fans young and old alike flocked to MetLife Stadium for Wrestlemania 29. MetLife stadium in Rutherford, New Jersey was transformed into a grand arena for the annual showdown.

This photo from Sec 315, row 5 seat 5 was submitted to us anonymously.

The two most anticipated fights on the match card were John Cena versus Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and the Undertaker versus CM Punk.

The latter match-up led ESPN columnist Jon Robinson to speculate the main event for Wrestlemania 30.”I think it’s in the realm of possibility that we’ll soon see a Mania headlined by the returning ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin going up against ‘The Best in the World,’ CM Punk.”

To get a fuller perspective of 29, I spoke exclusively with Sir Charles In Charge author and long time wrestling fan John Armstrong.

John sent in his view from section 355, row 20, seat 12 and was elated to share with me his take on Wrestlemania 29.

“I thought the event was a fun spectacle that every wrestling fan, casual or hardcore, should attempt to attend at least once in his or her lifetime. I really did enjoy myself.”

Blogger Jeff Peck was also wowed with Wrestlemania 29. “Overall I was very impressed with the show as a whole and felt it was really solid. Undertaker/CM Punk went beyond expectations and everything else didn’t make me desire anything more but left me pleasantly pleased with the performances.”

After about one year of planning and saving up, John got to witness one of his favorite wrestlers fight it out in the ring.

“I came to see one man perform, a man I’d been watching since my childhood, a man that may be close to retirement: The Undertaker . There were many rumors he wouldn’t be healthy enough to return in time for the event, but he was there and he did not disappoint.”

There was one problem though.

“I loved the view, hated the seat… The view was great for what I paid for it, but it was very, very high up. I have an issue with heights. I stayed seated as much as possible.”

As much as he enjoyed it, John is done with Wrestlemania for a while.

“To be completely honest, it’s going to take a lot for me to go to another Wrestlemania. It was a great experience, and it was fun… I thought I was a hardcore fan, but I learned quickly I’m as casual as it gets. I was overwhelmed by the enthusiasm displayed. I may go to some of the smaller events WWE puts on, but it was a truly exhausting experience.”

However, John was impressed with MetLife Stadium and would love to go back during football season. Next time you will probably catch him sitting much closer to the ground.
